How to Clear Instagram Cache to Free Up Storage

Instagram is a popular social media platform that allows users to share photos and videos with their followers. However, as you use Instagram, the app stores cache data on your device which can take up a significant amount of storage space over time. This cache includes images, videos, stories and other media files that you’ve viewed or uploaded. Clearing this cache can help free up storage space on your device.

To clear the Instagram cache on an Android device, first open the ‘Settings’ app from your home screen or app drawer. Scroll down until you find ‘Apps’ or ‘Application Manager’, then tap it. From there, scroll down until you find ‘Instagram’, then tap it to open its App Info page.

Once there, tap on ‘Storage’. You should see two options – ‘How to clear Instagram cache‘. Tap on both these buttons one by one starting with ‘Clear Cache’. Remember that clearing data will log you out of the Instagram app and delete all your app settings so use this option only if necessary.

On an iPhone or iPad running iOS 11 or later versions, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage (or iPad Storage). Scroll down until you see Instagram in the list of apps using storage space. Tap it and then select “Offload App”. This will delete the app but keep its documents and data intact for when you reinstall it from the App Store.

If your device is running an older version of iOS (10.3 or earlier), unfortunately there’s no built-in way to clear an individual app’s cache unless provided within the application itself which Instagram doesn’t provide currently.

However, if running low on storage is a constant issue due to heavy usage of Instagram or any other apps storing large amounts of cached files, consider using cloud-based services such as Google Photos for photo backup & iCloud for general backup purposes to free up local storage space.

Nowadays many third-party cleaner apps are also available which can help you in clearing cache from your device but use these with caution as they may also delete important files or data.

Regularly clearing the Instagram cache can be beneficial for users who constantly find themselves running out of storage space on their devices. It’s a quick and easy process that only takes a few minutes, but it can free up gigabytes of storage space, allowing your device to run smoother and faster. However, remember that once you clear the cache, images and videos will take longer to load the first time as they need to be re-downloaded.
